Blue as a Bomber; only pity parties after the game

We’ve been licking our wounds and the only parties we’ve been enjoying are pity parties. Yes, I’m still talking about the disappointing Blue Bombers loss at the Grey Cup last weekend.
As I mentioned last week I am not the biggest sports fan and I’ve noticed that over the course of the week most of the usual ‘sportsters’ have all but forgotten about the action on the field last Sunday. But it’s us ‘bandwagoners’ who seem to be hardest hit.
Getting together with my family, I watched the game with my parents and my oldest brother. Again, admittedly none of us is a CFL fan and prior to the final game of the season we don’t take part in the cheering of football by any means.
During the excitement of the game it wasn’t uncommon to hear my dad screaming and calling the players bad names and have my mom commenting that they should have been passing to other people and doing other plays; my brother clapping when the Bombers got a touchdown.
After the game, however, I thought it was such a ridiculous scene: none of us at all interested in what was happening before this game but somehow we feel oddly attached to the team now that all is said and done. How long will this adopted feeling last?
I find myself still talking to people about the game. Maybe people are looking at me and saying, “OK, get over it and move on.” You’d almost think I was one of the players. Nope, I’m just someone who showed interest at the last minute and still knows nothing about football.
Strangely, when the new CFL season rolls around we’ll scoff at the idea of taking in any of the home team’s games but I can guarantee you if the Bombers make the playoffs again we’ll be interested one more time… well, at least for a few hours, anyway.
