Melissa O'Neil
She is the Canadian Idol who won the
nation's hearts last season on the
popular reality show.  Melissa O'Neil talks
with SpeakFree Correspondent Troy Scott.
With JB sick and out of the action for much of February, his good friend and radio host Troy Scott stepped up for this edition of SpeakFree Celebrity Sightings.
Troy Scott
Troy Scott-  So I have met (Canadian Idol runner-up) Rex before, but we're meeting for the first time, Melissa.
Melissa O'Neil-  Yes we are.
Troy-  So how are you liking Winnipeg so far?
MO-  You know what?  I was super excited for Winnipeg because it was my last stop on my promo tour.  And it was the best stop.  It was the most welcoming and I'm pretty excited to be back.
Troy-  That's what we're all about.

Troy-  So how's the tour going?  This isn't your first stop, is it?
MO-  This is our fourth stop.
Troy-  Your fourth stop.  Where were you before?
MO-  Sudbury…
Troy-  How was Sudbury?
MO-  You gotta give Sudbury credit.  They kept us in their town for a second show so I totally give them props and I'm really impressed with them.  The second audience was amazing.  They were so hyped up and they were up on their feet for the last four songs of our sets.  It was amazing.  So bring it on, Winnipeg!
Troy-  Bring it on.  We've got to fill Sudbury's shoes.  They're not as smelly, I don't think.

Troy-  What do you do before a show?  You've got the big show coming up tonight.  Do you have any rituals yet?
MO-  Not really.
Troy-  Melissa, you said a really cool thing, that when I read it I said, "OK, this girl gets it."  You said you were terrified if you… actually it said you'd shatter yourself if you fell into the same direction/trap as the…slim, skin-flashing tween queens.  Is there that much pressure in the business to become that?
MO-  Um, there's not the pressure.  See, it's different, I'm totally candid and I get in trouble for it very often.
Troy-  That's good.  You should be candid.
MO-  Yeah, the thing is they don't tell you that way but they just say, "We want you to be in shape for the tour, [laughing] so you have a good cardiovascular system," and you're just like, "What are you saying, for real?"
Troy-  "I'm going to have a heart attack at 17.  Right, that'll be happening."

Troy-  Melissa, what do you do off the tour?  What are you doing when you're not on stage?  What do you guys do to relax?  You guys are pretty busy.
MO-  We… right now, we sleep.  We sleep.  There's honestly… we really don't have that much time right now.  Actually, tonight after the show, we go to bed and then the next morning we gotta fly back to Toronto so we can have a promotion dinner for Canadian Idol and then fly back to Lethbridge so we can play in Lethbridge and then Calgary.  It's totally crazy schedule.
Troy-   Actually, I kind of had an Idol-related question, you don't have to answer this if you really don't want to.
MO-  Go for it.
Troy-  Is Ben Mulroney a robot?
MO- Uh… no.
Troy-  Are you sure?  Because he looks like a really tanned robot.
MO-  Nooooooooo.  Ben's nice.
Troy-  He's nice…
MO-  He's nice.
