Hurricane Katrina SpeakFree-for-all
September 5, 2005
I couldn’t think of a better country to be ripped to shreds than the U.S. Look at everything it has been doing to Iraq and the others overseas. Way to kick some ass, Katrina.
-Roger. Canada
My heart sunk when I saw people waving frantically on roofs and no one was able to save them. As the world’s richest nation you think that we would be able to get to those people faster than the responders did.
-Wendy. United States
We will certainly take one thing away from this whole experience and that’s how to improve the response for next time. Too bad we had to lose so many innocent people by screwing things up so badly this time.
-John. United States
If only all those troops weren’t up to no good in Iraq maybe there could have been a better response (to the hurricane). For years I have been saying we should be taking care of our country first and looking out for our safety but this once again goes to show how vulnerable we are.
-Peter. United States
I find it amusing when I see Americans coming onto talk shows now and asking for help from other countries. But when it comes to leading the way into other countries they are wanting to be independent and control the world. Well what are your guns doing now, Bush? They are patrolling in arenas and threatening the lives of innocent victims to the hurricane. That’s brilliant. If I thought militaristically about everything I could have easily come up with that one.
-Alex. Canada
When I sit and watch the people struggling I want to just jump through the TV and help them. There has to be something else we can do for these people. I couldn’t imagine what they are going through. God bless you all.
-Leila. England
Too bad Bush didn’t get swept away when he went there for his photo op. In fact, I would have given money just to see that happen.
-Wayne. United States
It is a shame what is happening to those people. It makes you think that this could happen anywhere. We often like to think of ourselves safe in our homes from terrorism, but weather can be just as devastating. My heart is with those people.
-Brenda. United States
As the United States was hit hard by a devastating hurricane, the world watched in horror, and some even in amusement as to what was happening to Americans. Those sentiments were all sent to us and we begin another SpeakFree-for-all.
Does anyone really think that Bush gives a rat’s [expletive] about the people that are dying? I don’t think so. Does he care about the people that are dying in Iraq? I don’t think so. I think it’s time we start voting for people that actually care about others and aren’t going to purposely put lives at risk.
-Jeff. United States
If we needed bombs or some sort of weapon of mass destruction I think the government would have responded quickly. But when it comes to helping people in a non-violent way they don’t know how to handle something like that.
-Yolanda. United States
I wish for once that people would stop criticizing the government and just realize that they are doing the best they can under the circumstances they were dealt. There is no way to predict what was going to happen with this hurricane and we can’t say that anyone knew so many people were going to die. But with such a huge outcome and the short time the government had to respond, they are doing a good job. I think this is a sensitive issue that we need to show a little compassion for the people whose lives were lost or to the family members who lost loved ones.
-Barb. United States
Does anyone else think that Osama was behind this whole hurricane thing?
-Matt. Italy
I have this strange feeling that because the U.S. is vulnerable (or at least it has been portrayed that way on TV) that now would be an opportune time for a terrorist group to strike? I’m not saying that I want one to happen but with so much of our attention drawn to Louisiana, is anyone still watching the other states that could be a hit for terrorists?
-Jenn. United States
It’s great to see when politicians come together and work for the betterment of a nation. I am very happy with what I have seen from the governors and mayors and all the other elected officials working together to help the people of those communities.
-Monty. United States
Where is Canada in all this? Where is England? We came to the aid of England in July when they were struck by bombs, where is everyone when we need help? Maybe we should stop offering up our services to everyone when they need them.
-Name Withheld. United States
It’s about time some Americans got washed away. Next it should be the president and his goonies and then maybe the world can start to become the place it should be full of peace and love.
-Pablo. Brazil
Why do former Presidents Clinton and Bush have to get involved with this just like they did for the tsunami? Could it be that the current Bush has made everyone hate our country so much that people don’t want to hear about us anymore? They need good guys (and I even use that term loosely) to canvass the world to generate funds from other countries. I think that says something about the confidence we have in our government that we can’t expect people to respond to our current leader and he has to enlist the aid of previous titleholders to help out. That is saying a lot about how we regard the people that we as a nation voted into office.
-Brian. United States
In the world of 24 hour news we are glued to the TV and watch and shake our heads as we see people floating by, but as much time as we spend sitting and watching these people, are we spending enough time doing what we can to help them?
-Jeremy. Canada
We should stop pointing fingers and rally together as a world and support anyone and everyone we can in this time of need.
-Francis. United States
Who cares where the money comes from? Let’s just get it and start saving lives.
-Pat. United States
I say “screw you, Americans” when it comes to you needing our help. When it came to our country wanting you to take notice that you are polluting our fresh water lakes you did nothing to try and help us. So now when the water is flowing in your direction, we will turn our noses up and watch you suffer. Nice doing business with you, Bush.
-Bob. Canada
Our country once again looks like a fool because in time of crisis we are sitting and bickering and arguing with each other about who is to blame. Let’s get passed that work on building our relationships with each other and stop bullying everyone around.
-Jen R. United States
