Troops don't conduct themselves like that here
I can't believe what I'm seeing.  Canadians who are known as peacekeepers are going around shooting people overseas.  This is ridiculous.  What is the point of sending our loved ones overseas to be shooting and killing people?  We don't conduct ourselves like that here and we wouldn't want people like that patroling streets in this country so why are we expecting them (troops) to go over there act like that?
-Randal

Call us Americans already
There is something robotic about our prime minister.  I think Stephen Harper is almost a computer model that just wants to mirror what (U.S. President George) Bush does.  Why don't we just forget about being two different countries and join up with the States  and have people hate all of us too?  I'm beginning to hate us since the new government came into action.  Too bad there wasn't a Taliban member present when Harper was just in Afghanistan.  If he would have been attacked maybe the whole mission would be reconsidered.  Who are we to say, "It's not safe enough for the prime minister but it's OK to send the general public there?"  Osama, you had a chance but you missed it.

Sympathy for troops
I am saddened when I see people from Canada not supporting our military.  These people are ensuring the safety of our country every day they are in Afghanistan.  I certainly don't have the nerve to leave everything back home and go overseas for a year or two at a stretch.  I don't even think I could last a day there.  These people have the courage to be fighting for what's right and we should be respectful and supportive of them.

Troops are heroes
How dare anyone be speaking so low about our Canadian military.  It is no wonder people are laughing at our country for the last election and now we are not even standing by the brave people who are in Afghanistan.  Next time you open your mouth or sit at the keyboard to write something nasty about the troops, maybe you can think about the families that are left behind only with the hopes their loved ones will return home safely.

The gloves are off.  SpeakFree readers are letting loose and packing some tough punches at the Canadian military's mission in Afghanistan.
Here are some of the submissions sent in to SpeakFree in March.
Keep fighting
I agree with the decision to have our troops in Afghanistan.  There needs to be some sort of order in the countries that are facing civil unrest.  Canada and the United States are powerhouses when it comes to being able to maintain order and I think we are doing a damn good job at making our presence known and making an effort to correct the situations.  I applaud the decision and encourage the men and women of the military to keep up the good work.

Not worth the risk
Maybe it's just me but I don't understand why we are putting innocent lives at risk to save people who enjoy fighting and killing others.  Whatever is happening in their countries can be dealt with in their countries.  We as Canadians weren't threatened at all by what was happening there but for some reason I have the idea we're going to be a target if we don't mind our own business.  It was a stupid move that I don't support.

Our image has changed
People used to look at Canada as a friendly country that wanted to help people.  Now we have our military opening fire on innocent people in another country.  If it's considered terrorism for someone to come here and do that, how is it OK for a country to send people there and make it their duty?  That seems pretty messed up.  I'm guessing it will only be a matter of time before we start seeing the fruits of our labour coming back rotten.

You are my heroes
For all the people who can sit on their couch and judge the job the Canadian military is doing should feel shamed.  I personally watch every second of the news when there are stories about our troops on because I am rooting for them and know they are making a positive difference in the world.  You are my heroes.

Too much scandal surrounding mission
Troops shouldn't be deployed overseas unless there is certainty with the citizens of Canada and the government can come to an agreement about the mission.  Of course there will be problems and tragedy when the mission isn't fully supported by everybody.
